Charles Schambeau is a post-doctoral researcher who joined the Florida Space Institute as part of the Preeminent Postdoctoral Program at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Aug. 2018. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Physics at the University of South Alabama (2007), Master of Science in Physics at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (2009), thesis entitled “Applications of Velocity Selective Optical Pumping of Atomic Vapors Using Pump-Probe Spectroscopy”, and Doctor of Philosophy in Physics at the University of Central Florida (2018), dissertation entitled “Analysis of Nucleus Properties of the Enigmatic Comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1”.

His research focuses on the origins of our solar system through observational studies of comets and Centaurs. In particular, he specializes in investigating objects in the Centaur-to-Jupiter-Family transition; a region where cometary activity is driven primarily by a process other than water-ice sublimation.
